Devotion 2-22-24, Psalm 62:5-6- "My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken." Do you talk to yourself? Do you encourage yourself, or reprimand yourself, or complain to yourself? We find in many of the psalms, that the writer, often David, talked to himself and to God all the time. David encouraged himself to stick to God, to trust in God, to hope in God, and to trust only in God, not in man. He told himself to wait for God- "My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken."(verses 1-2) David acknowledged the realities of the evil around him; but, he chose not to participate in it, or even seriously entertain it in his thinking. He chose God only! David's expectation, his hope, was in God only. David looked to God, watched for God to move, and obeyed God. His entire focus was on God. He recognized the truth- "That power belongs to God."(verse 11) Only as his hope, his focus, his thoughts, his actions all lined up with God, was David able to proclaim- "And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord, for You recompense a man according to his work."(verse 12) Where do your expectations lie? In whom do you trust? Upon whom do you lean in trouble? Proverbs 3:5-7- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil." Choose God!
