Devotion 2-17-24, John 14:27- "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." Peace is a theme throughout the Bible. It is stated in many different ways; but here, Jesus said He will give it. His words are a promise, a fact, stated ahead of His crucifixion. In the previous verse, Jesus stated God, the Father, would send the Holy Spirit to reside in anyone who belonged to Jesus. Now He says He will give "His" peace. John 16:33 continues, "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” We see that Jesus' peace has nothing to do with situations in our lives. We will experience tribulation, troubles of all kinds. We are human, therefore, there will be troubles. But, if we are "in Him," in Jesus, His people, we have His promises. These assurances of peace are for this moment in time, not just the future. Right now, this minute, each one who is "in Him," may know an internal calm, a peace that passes understanding. Jesus' peace emanates from His being. He is peace; it is part of who He is. He is the Prince of Peace.(Isaiah 9:6) He is peace, the Prince of Peace, the giver of peace. His first words to the disciples, after his resurrection, were peace. "Peace be with you."(John 20:19) If you lack peace, ask for it. The asking must come from a submitted relationship with Jesus; but, the request will be granted. You may have peace. Romans 15:13- "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
