Devotion's by Deborah

Devotion 2-6-24, John 8:31 - 32 - "So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Jesus spoke these words to believers but also in the hearing of those who thought they already knew the truth and said they were already free. They did not know God's truth; they knew their traditions and they knew the words of God's law but not God's loving intent. Anyone may read and study the bible with no desire except an intellectual consent to the words. Jesus said, "If you continue in My words," "you will know the truth." This known truth will be acted upon because you are disciples, followers, believers of Jesus, in God the Father. This is more than a mental assent to God's authority. Life is free because you know the One who has released you from the bondage of sin. Jesus said, "Continue in My word," because My disciples know the truth of God in your heart, soul, mind, and strength and are free to live serving God every second of the day. If you choose Jesus, you have chosen life and God, God's way. The only way to know that life is to, "continue" in God's word. Cease being a blind, illiterate, followers of external rules. Cease being satisfied with bondage to sin. Cease accepting lies for truth. Turn totally, completely, to God and become those who are shining gold in God's hands, reflecting His image to the sin-sick world. Be one God may use to lead others into truth and freedom. Be one God may trust. Romans 8:2 - "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death."
