Devotion 12-1-23, Jeremiah 32:40 - "I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me." God will not tolerate hypocrisy. Israel had turned to idolatry, then Judah also fully turned to worship of demon gods. God removed them from their land as an act of discipline. It was a "heads up" moment. it was a "slap in the face," a "wake up and realize your peril" moment. God's heart was to love and prosper His people. They had rejected Him, the one God, for idol worship. Jeremiah was God's prophet, speaking difficult truth, but also speaking infinite love, forgiveness, and restoration. The people spent 70 years living in a pagan society. In that time, some realized their true love was God! Who is your true love? Whom do you worship? Is it the demon gods pleasure, finance, entertainment, beauty and success? Or, have you chosen to look up and chosen to believe God's words? God says, "I will make an everlasting covenant with them." In Jeremiah, He speaks to the Jews, His people. Because of Jesus, we may be His people as well. He will make an everlasting covenant with you, personally. If you choose Him, He will never "turn away" from you. If you choose Him, He will covenant with you for your good and His glory. In verse 41, God says, "I will rejoice over them to do good." Jeremiah 33:2-3, “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it, the Lord is His name, ‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’"
