Devotion 1-3-24. Psalms 1:1 - "How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!" We ought to read God's Word, the Bible, with a plan, just not helter- skelter. We also ought to read God's word with an awe and wonder, asking God, "What do you want to say to me today?" We must read, asking, "What does that mean," "Why is that example used," "How does this apply to me personally?" Psalm 1 clearly informs us that certain actions are blessed and others are condemned. Blessed means fortunate, prosperous and favored by God. "Council of the wicked" means council of the ungodly, the sinner. Verse 3 indicates that the ungodly, those who disobey God, are scornful sinners. The blessed one, the godly one, delights in the "law of the Lord." The godly one, the blessed one, meditates on God's Word day and night - all the time. God's Word is continually in that person's mind, directing his actions. Therefore, this one is "firmly planted by streams of water." This one will yield godly fruit, even in difficult situations.(Verse three) The ungodly one will not. He is called wicked, unrighteous and a sinner.(Verse 4-5) Verse 6 tells us "the Lord knows." It makes no difference whether you are blessed or a sinner. The Lord knows your ways. There are natural consequences either way. The blessed are called righteous; the wicked will perish. Psalms 2:11 - 12 - "Worship the Lord with reverence And rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!"
