Devotion 11-28-23 Matthew 16:16 , Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Knowledge of God is not first a "head" knowledge. It is first a heart and life knowledge. There are millions who will mentally assent that there is some "god;" but those people have not experienced a personal, intimate, life-changing knowledge that "the God" has knowledge of them personally, separate from all other humans. The 12 disciples had all spent almost every moment with Jesus for 3 years, but, it was Peter's own revelation that said, "You are the Christ." "You are the Messiah." "You are God in the flesh." Once that truth has sunk in, life changes. Every choice from then on, must be made in the light of the knowledge of "Christ, the Son of the living God." Nothing is as essential as that earth-shattering truth. Nothing may direct our lives but Him. For all Peter's faults, he saw Jesus as who He really was. That revelation changed everything, and it must still change everything. Regularly take a critical look at your life. Determine that Christ is still and always will be the Son of the living God in your life. Do not lean on anything but God's word. Do not live by any word except His word. Know His word, believe His word, and act on His word. Ephesians 3:16 - 19 - "that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God."
