Devotion 12-15-23 Jonah 2:2 , “I called out of my distress to the Lord, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice." Most people are familiar with Jonah. He was sent, by God, to speak destruction to Nineveh. The Assyrians, those in Nineveh, were an evil, violent people. Jonah, God's prophet, did not want to go; He went the opposite direction- west instead of east, right into the mouth of the Mediterranean sea, right into the mouth of a big fish. (Read the Bible account. It's short.) In the belly of the fish, Jonah repented of his disobedience to God. He prayed. "I called out in my distress..." You may find yourself in similar circumstances. You are not in a fish's belly, but you feel you are in mortal danger, on the edge of death, near the pit of hell. Follow Jonah's example. Cry out to God. Call on God. Speak to Him. He will hear you. He will answer you. The answer probably will not be audible, but it may be. Call on God, listening and expecting. Do not dictate what, how, when, or where God answers. Give Him room. 2 Chronicles 15:4- " But in their distress they turned to the Lord God of Israel, and they sought Him, and He let them find Him." Psalm 34:4- "I sought the Lord, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears." Psalm 77:1- "My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me." This pattern is set in the Bible - Call on God and He will answer!
